A dragon calling the clouds and a tiger creating the wind face each other. The left and right sides of the painting use different techniques.
In the dragon on the right, the ink blots out the clouds, and the lines used to draw the dragon are full of life.
On the other hand, in the left, sharp and fine lines are used to depict the fur of the tiger. The wind is represented in very light ink.
The technique is excellent, but the gentle and serene expression of the dragon and tiger is also attractive.
Yoshimura Kokei (1769-1836) studied painting under Maruyama Okyo (1733-1795) and was an active painter in Kyoto, where he is considered one of the ten master painters of Okyo.
