The water is crossed diagonally across the fan-shaped picture plane, and the snake basket, boat, and oars are placed in it.Zesin’s aesthetic sense is demonstrated in the bold composition with blank spaces.
What is remarkable about this work is the exquisite rendering of running water.White waves splashing at the bow of the boat, large waves with gentle curves, and small waves disturbing the surface of the water here and there: ……The artist has skillfully depicted the minute changes in the expression of running water by carefully layering strokes upon strokes.Observe this work up close, and you will be amazed at the outstanding painting technique.
Lacquer has a higher viscosity than ordinary paints, so a high level of skill is required to express details. This work is an excellent example of Zesin’s outstanding lacquer art techniques in full effect.
