This work lyrically depicts an autumn evening in the Suigo area.
A raft rider wearing a sedge hat crosses the river in the near background. His face is not visible from the viewer’s perspective, but it appears as if he looks up and gazes ahead. Following his gaze, we see a flock of geese flying away over the autumn-colored countryside. The geese are probably on their way home.
In the distance, a large moon peeks out from the mountains. Thus, night falls in this tranquil water village. It evokes a nostalgic and wistful feeling of the dying days. ……
The skillful placement of the motifs and the effective use of golden clouds add depth to the picture. The technique of creating an expansive sense of landscape in spite of its small size is truly brilliant. The gold leaf scattered on the mount also creates an elegant atmosphere.
How about listening closely to the small autumn in the fan?
