This painting depicts a hermitage quietly standing by a lake in the deep snowy mountains. The snow piled thickly on the leaves and branches of the trees and the ripples on the surface of the lake are beautifully detailed, and the clear snowy mountain air can be felt through the picture.
The motifs piled up from the bottom to the top of the picture, leading the viewer’s eye skillfully toward the top and bottom of the picture. The compositional structure of the painting is also a characteristic of this work.

The old man in the study by the window, leaning on his elbow and looking down at his book, is probably the master of this hermitage. Behind him rises the quay, and in the distance are a series of snow-capped mountains. The winter mountains in the morning are quiet and snow-covered. All that can be heard is the regular sound of the Samurai children moving their brooms. ……

This work depicts the longing for a life of seclusion, away from the mundane world, where one’s mind can be absorbed in the grandeur of nature.
