Gorgeous Hina dolls are depicted. The male doll have dignified expressions, while the female doll smile gently. Their faces are so beautiful and unique that they look like real people.
Overall, the painting is very detailed, and even the curtains and noren at the top of the screen have been painted meticulously without skipping a beat. The work is gorgeous with its extensive use of gold paint, but at the same time, the skillful use of colors gives the work a sense of serenity.
Kano Tatsunobu (1814-1891) was the 15th head of the Nakahashi Kano family and served four shoguns from Ienari to Iemochi. After the Meiji Restoration, he continued to be active in the Imperial Palace and was appointed as a member of the Imperial Household Artists in 1890. The signature on this work indicates that it was painted after 1858, the year he was appointed Hogen.
