Large peonies in red, white, and light pink are in full bloom.
The light peach peonies are painted white on the outer folds of each petal, and the peach color gradually darkens inward to create a three-dimensional effect. The white peonies are not simply painted in one color of white, but rather the saturation of the white is exquisitely adjusted to create a finish with depth.
The red peony is particularly striking among the three types of peonies. The outside of the petals is a bright red with a little white mixed in, and as you approach the center, a slightly darker red is used to create a shaded effect. The artist painted each stamen in the center and even applied a small pollen-like spot in the center of the stamen. It is an amazingly detailed depiction.
Looking at the leaves up close, you will notice that each leaf has a different expression. The colors on the front and back are slightly different, the tips are dying, and so on.

From a distance, the entire painting gives the impression of a glossy, majestic peony in full bloom, but closer inspection reveals that the coloring and composition are the result of careful calculation, making this work a must-see.

Kano Sadanobu (date of birth and death unknown) was a painter of the Edo Kano school active in the 19th century. He was known as “Taizan-in” and “Gyokuraku,” and was ranked as a Hogen. He studied the painting style of Kano Naganobu (1775-1828), the great master of the Edo Kano school, and many copies of his works have been handed down to us.
He is one of the painters who will attract increasing attention in the future.
