Within a small frame in the center of the screen, a huge Chinese-style building is depicted. Surrounded by trees, this tower is very glittering, using red, blue, and gold as its base color. A close inspection of the women playing there reveals that some are dancing in the garden, others are playing musical instruments, and still others are admiring calligraphy and paintings. In the circular window painted in the center of the building is a woman facing a green parrot.
In addition to these beautiful women, the gold used for the clouds and rocks further enliven the painting. This work evokes the splendor of the Chinese court.

Kano Sadanobu, who painted this work, was a painter of the Edo Kano school active in the 19th century whose biography is unknown. He was known as “泰山院(Taizan-in)” and “玉楽(Gyokuraku),” and was ranked as a Hogen.
This work reveals Sadanobu’s solid painting skills and his interest in history and historical facts. He is one of the most notable painters of the future.
